מיר קענען זיך דערווײַל ניט צונויפֿטרעפֿן אינעם פּאַריזער ייִדיש־צענטער, נאָר דערפֿאַר קענען ייִדישיסטן פֿון דער גאַנצער וועלט אָנטייל נעמען אין אַ ווירטועלן צונויפֿטרעף (דורך דער אַפּליקאַציע „זום“). לייענען, קלערן און שמועסן צוזאַמען אויף ייִדיש – איז דאָס ניט דאָס בעסטע מיטל זיך צו פֿאַרבינדן איבער מויערן און גרענעצן ?

À défaut de pouvoir nous réunir physiquement à la Maison de la culture yiddish, nous proposons aux yiddishistes du monde entier une rencontre virtuelle sur l’application Zoom. Lire, réfléchir et discuter ensemble en yiddish – quel meilleur moyen de se retrouver au-delà des murs et des frontières !
Vous pouvez vous inscrire à tout le programme, ou bien à ceux que vous voudrez des des quatre séminaires de six heures répartis en quatre sessions d’une heure et demie.
Les séminaires se déroulent entièrement en yiddish.

- Les épidémies dans la littérature yiddish ancienne
Séminaire de quatre séances, les jeudis de 19h à 20h30 (du 14 mai au 4 juin)
Avec Simon Neuberg
Dans la littérature yiddish ancienne, certains ouvrages médicaux, chansons historiques ou prières abordent le sujet des épidémies. Un petit livre y est même entièrement consacré: Atsiras-hamageyfe (« Arrêter l’épidémie ») paru à Francfort-sur-l’Oder en 1770, alors qu’une épidémie sévissait en Pologne et qu’on craignait qu’elle ne franchît la frontière. Simon Neuberg, spécialiste en yiddish ancien, donnera quatre cours au sujet de cet ouvrage et d’autres textes qui présentent un intérêt accru par comparaison avec la situation actuelle. Le séminaire est adapté même pour ceux qui n’ont jamais étudié la littérature yiddish ancienne.

- Nouvelles de Shklov de Zalman Shnéour
Séminaire de quatre séances, les vendredis de 17h à 18h30 (du 15 mai au 5 juin)

Le poète et romancier Zalman Shnéour (en yiddish : Zalmen Shneyer, 1886-1959) a fait une vaste place dans ses œuvres aux figures et coutumes de sa ville natale de Shklov, en Bielorussie, à la fin du 19e siècle. Les histoires qu’il noue autour d’elles se caractérisent par leur humour et leur raffinement artistique. Au séminaire on étudiera quelques chapitres de son volume « Shklover kinder », dont chacun est un véritable joyau littéraire.

- Vie et œuvre de Daniel Tsharni
Séminaire de quatre séances, les dimanches de 17h à 18h30 (du 17 mai au 7 juin)
Avec Akvilė Grigoravičiūtė
Daniel Tsharni (1888–1959), poète et journaliste né en Biélorussie, était actif dans divers milieux littéraires yiddish de par le monde, sur lesquels il nous a laissé de précieux témoignages. Moins connu de nos jours que ses frères, le critique Shmuel Niger et le dirigeant bundiste Borekh Vladek-Tsharni, il était cependant une figure importante de la vie culturelle yiddish au XXe siècle. Au cours du présent séminaire, nous allons étudier des passages de ses œuvres, accompagnés d’autres documents.

- Le reportage yiddish au XXe siècle
Séminaire de quatre séances, les lundis de 19h à 20h30 (du 18 mai au 8 juin)

L’histoire du reportage yiddish commence avec les « Tableaux d’un voyage en province » (1891) de Y.L.Peretz, mais le genre ne s’épanouit vraiment qu’au XXe siècle, dans l’entre-deux-guerres. C’est alors qu’on le trouve régulièrement dans les pages de la presse yiddish et qu’il atteint le statut d’une forme artistique. Au cours du séminaire nous découvrirons les variétés du genre : chronique de voyage, reportage de guerre, chronique judiciaire et différentes formes de reportages de société. Nous lirons des échantillons de textes consacrés et d’autres pratiquement inconnus, d’avant où d’après la guerre, dus à des auteurs comme Meylekh Ravitsh, Rokhl Oyerbakh, Sh.L.Shnayderman ou Esther Kreitman.

Although, for the time being, we cannot meet at the Paris Yiddish Center, Yiddishists all over the world can still take part in virtual meetings, using Zoom. Reading, reflecting and discussing in Yiddish – what better way to come together beyond walls and across borders?
You may sign up for the entire program or choose whichever of the 4 seminars you prefer. Each one meets for an hour and a half, one day a week (i.e. 6 hours for each seminar).
All seminars are conducted entirely in Yiddish.

1. Epidemics in Old-Yiddish literature
Seminar of 4 sessions, Thursdays from 7 to 8.30 p.m. (from May 14 to June 4)

A number of works in Old Yiddish literature – poems, prayers or remedy books – deal with epidemics. One small volume is entirely devoted to this subject: Atsires Hamageyfe (« Stopping the Epidemic »), printed in Frankfurt-am-Oder in 1770, at a time when an epidemic was raging in Poland and there was fear that it might cross the border. Simon Neuberg, a specialist in Old-Yiddish literature, will hold 4 classes on this book, along with supplementary texts, all of great interest at this particular time. The seminar is accessible to students without previous experience with Old Yiddish texts.

2. Zalman Shneur’s Shklov Stories
Seminar of 4 sessions, Fridays from 5 to 6.30 p.m. (from May 15 to June 5)

Zalman Shneur (1886-1959), author of poems, novels and short stories, whose work is in great part devoted to the characters and customs of Shklov, his Belorussian home town, in the latter years of the 19th century. Around this material he has crafted tales full of humor and artistic beauty. The seminar will focus on several chapters of the volume « Shklover Kinder », each of which is in itself a literary gem.

3. The life and works of Daniel Tsharni
Seminar of 4 sessions, Sundays from 5 to 6.30 p.m. (from May 17 to June 7)

Daniel Tsharni (Charney, 1888-1959), poet and journalist born in Belorussia, was active in various literary circles on both sides of the Atlantic. These experiences he described in fascinating memoirs. Not as well-known as his brothers, the critic Shmuel Niger and the Bund activist Borekh Vladek-Tsharni, he was an important figure in Yiddish cultural life in the 20th century. In this seminar we will study passages from his works, accompanied by other documents.

4. 20th century reporting in Yiddish
Seminar of 4 sessions, Mondays from 7 to 8.30 p.m. (from May 18 to June 8)

The history of Yiddish reporting begins with « Pictures from a Provincial Journey » (1891) by I.L. Peretz, but its true blossoming came in the 20th century, in the interwar period. In those years such reporting appeared regularly in the columns of the Yiddish press, where its quality reached that of a true art form. During this seminar we will explore different varieties of the genre: travel writing, war reporting, judicial reports and different types of social reportage. Through a variety of samples written both before and after the war, we will discover a number of writers, some famous, others practically unknown, among them Meylekh Ravitsh, Rokhl Oyerbakh, Sh.L. Shnayderman or Esther Kreitman.
